Silver Kites is a Dublin-based vocal ensemble that write and perform new and experimental music. Their repertoire is diverse and includes experimental vocal and art-based projects that aim to bring choral music into new performance contexts. Musicians, artists and composers in their own right, the members (Fionnuala Conway, Lenka Dobai and Judith Ring) have considerable experience in performance, music technology and multimedia exhibition, giving this group an eclectic mix of talents and skills with which to create and perform exciting and varied work.
While continuing to develop and perform their own compositions, Silver Kites collaborate with a number of composers, offering a unique workshop environment and collaborative relationship with the composer to realise the work. In 2014 members of Silver Kites performed music by composer Michael Gallen in the dance production ‘Tardigrade’ as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival. In 2013, they were commissioned by the Irish Museum of Modern Art to perform an adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s ‘Imagination Dead Imagine’ composed by Cerith Wyn Evans and Leo Chadburn for the launch of the exhibition ‘Cloud Illusions I Recall’. In 2012 they recorded music written by Séan Carpio and in 2011 performed ‘Chorspiel’ by artist Ulla von Brandenburg at the annual art event Gracelands. Upcoming collaborations include performances of works by Max Andrzejewski’s band Hütte, during the Jazz festival at the National Concert Hall (April, 2015) a recording with the electronic duo Lakker and release on their EP XXXXX, and a collaboration with the visual artist Mark Linnane.
Former members include Eileen Carpio, Sharon Phelan and Jessica Hartup.
